Reflections of Reality

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

For me, it depends on the work I’ve done before facing my reflection. When I'm doing what I love, I see myself differently. After engaging in work that I feel I was born to do, I see an energized and stunning woman, with a beautiful smile, glowing skin, and dreamy eyes, whose body is the perfect size. When I am doing work that doesn’t spark joy, I see a very different image in the looking glass. This woman appears tired and haggard, with lifeless hair, dark circles under her eyes and oh so heavy, literally and figuratively.

How could this be possible? Surely, physiology cannot change in a mere matter of hours. This must have been the inspiration for the person who first asked the question, “Can you look yourself in the mirror?”

When I see that girl devoid of her spark and her light, I avoid mirrors and taking pictures at all costs, much like a vampire. Do you know why vampires avoid mirrors?

Because they do not exist.

“…the mirror is supposed to show nothing but what actually exists, reality as it is. And if vampires avoid mirrors, it is because they do not exist (vampires, not mirrors), it is because the specular reflection, servile reproduction of reality, throws them in the face the tangible proof of their non-existence.” - Vangelis Athanassopoulos

I want to exist.

More than that, I want to live. When I’m not doing what I love, I lack that sense of feeling fully alive.

This week I challenge you to live in the fullness of the joy that accompanies doing what you love. Measure this by looking in the mirror, literally and figuratively. Take note of what you see. This can be the filter that you use when you’re wondering which direction to take or when you have an important decision to make.

Do you love what you see?

Do you accept and admire who you see?

Is there evidence of someone who you do not recognize or want to be?

Your reflection is the echo of your soul.

Manifestation Affirmations

I am living a life that allows me to love who I see in the mirror.

I am living light, both brilliant and free of weight.

My soul projects an image that I admire.
