At pivotal points in my life, I’ve often set aside time to take myself through deeply reflective activities that led breakthroughs in my behaviors and positive changes in my life. Experiencing the impact of this important inner work was what inspired me to start my coaching practice. As the date of the next big leap of faith in my professional life nears, I found this to be the perfect time to return to my proven process to reflect on my journey up to this point. After assessing the last two years of my life, I discovered the steps that I need to take to navigate this next phase. Guiding myself through the same series of activities that I use to support my coaching clients allowed me to take a huge step back and look at my life from the outside. This was extremely helpful in thinking about what I want now and what matters most moving forward. As you navigate the next level of your life, here are a few strategies to help you along your journey. Reveal. I started a fresh new journal and wrote out answers to all the questions that I ask my clients in preparation for a coaching session. These include questions like, “What are the three biggest changes you want to make in your life in the next three months?” or “What is the biggest problem you’d love to solve in your career or personal life?” Sitting with and honestly answering questions like this can help to assess where you are and reflect on what is in or out of alignment with where you want to be. Deal. This phase of self-reflection is like the bumpers or guard rails on the lanes at the bowling alley. They are often used for children to prevent the ball from rolling into the gutter. Your goals, like the bowling pins, are clearly out in front of you. What protections will you put in place to keep you in your lane and support you along the way? This looks like guiding principles such as your personal core values, mission, and vision statements, and people like coaches or accountability partners who can guide you back when you begin to veer off course. Heal. I recently recovered from strained muscles in my neck and chest. There was no medicine that provided true relief from pain that made it hard for me to breath, laugh, or sleep. The only thing that helped was rest, so as a part of my strategic soul planning practice, I incorporated the very intentional practice of sitting still. For me, this looked like meditation, prayer, or simply sitting with my thoughts and emotions. This week I challenged you to embark upon your own Strategic Soul Session. Refrain from always pushing through your pain, plowing through your days, or living to check off an endless list of tasks and responsibilities. Instead, I invite you to take a step back and assess where you are and how near or far that is from where you really want to be. Manifestation Affirmations I am strategically aligning with the desires of my soul. I am spending my energy on what matters most. I am sitting still to make space for healing.
