One of the greatest gifts that I’ve received was the Desire Map Planner by Danielle LaPorte. Every morning, this planner gave me the task of writing one to three words that represented how I wanted to feel that day. Every day for one year I committed to this process and my life shifted in a major way.
I often found myself focusing on words that were on the opposite end of how I was feeling in the moment. When I felt anxiety, my word was calm. When I was booked by a major client that stretched me beyond my comfort zone and I felt imposter syndrome creeping in, my word was confidence. In many instances my word was light, because it could mean so many different things depending on the context. On some days I wanted to be a source light for the people that I served, on other days, I needed to feel light instead of the figurative or literal heaviness that had me weighed down.
Today, my word is surrender, because the constant need to be in control can put a strain on your relationships with others, your faith, and the grace you grant yourself.
Imagine a life where instead of focusing on your ever growing and never-ending to-do list or your stringent and exhausting goals, you simply let the day be led by how you wanted to feel.
This week I challenge you to select one word for each day that you will focus on in all that you do. Write it down in an important place such as your planner, journal, or on a Post It Note that you'll stick on your computer. Set it as an alarm or calendar reminder on your smart phone that alerts you every hour on the hour. Make it a word that represents how you want feel, who you want to be, and what you want to do or have.
What’s your word for today?
Feel it. Be it. Do it. Have it.
Step into the life that you truly desire one day and one word at a time.
I am the designer of the day that I desire.
I am the designer of my life.
I am a skilled wordsmith who manifests my desires through what I write and speak.
