Lessons From The Lazy River

This summer I spent some time at one of my favorite waterparks where I decided to kick off the fun with a float around the lazy river. For those of you who are not familiar, a lazy river is a long and winding pool with an easy going current that pushes you around the watery path as you relax on an inner tube. All you have to do is lay and be led. This seems simple, right? Well, leave it to me to make it harder than it had to be, but there was a powerful lesson in my experience that day. It had been an intense and stressful several weeks and I found my anxiety growing as what felt like an infinite amount of responsibilities filled my plate. I had retreated to this delightful place, but I was having the hardest time relaxing and having fun. I thought that surely the lazy river would do the trick, until I realized that I had started to turn it into work. The first time around the river I found myself pushing off of walls to avoid being drenched by waterfalls, and paddling to get out of the way of other patrons. In an attempt to avoid discomfort and create comfort for others, I was exhausting myself. I was defeating the entire purpose of the process. What would happen if I just let go and went with the flow? The second time around I decided to release the need to control. I surrendered to the waterfalls. I allowed my inner tube to bump other inner tubes and be pushed along by eager children who were excited to move through the journey more quickly. As a result, I felt light and free, not weighed down by the heaviness of unnecessary and excess responsibility. That lazy river is like life. Sometimes we just do too much. What might it feel like if we relaxed, enjoyed the flow, and let the beautiful waves lead us where we are meant to go? This week I challenge you to simply let go and let life flow. Release the need to control every action and outcome. Surrender to the sweet synchronicity of the seeds you’ve planted, and while you wait for them to grow, savor every juicy page and chapter of the story of you as it unfolds.

Manifestation Affirmations I am light. I am free. I am in the blissful state of flow.
