Every home theater has what is referred to as The Money Seat. This is considered to be the best seat in the house because it is precisely centered between the left and right speakers. The person sitting in this seat is positioned to have the best sound experience.
We are often inundated with noise that makes it challenging for us to clearly hear the messages that are meant for us in our personal and professional lives. This means that just like the home theater owner, we need to create the optimal conditions so that we can sit in our own money seat.
As you plan for the money seat in your life, here are a few things to consider:
Stillness and Silence – Instructions are always available to us. They are securely stationed in the seats of our souls, but we must be still and silent enough to hear them. How might you minimize the movement and volume in your life to have the best auditory experience?
Minimize Distractions – Today, our biggest distraction lies in our greatest tool, our smart phone. iPhones are constantly collecting data that tracks our usage. There is a Screen Time feature that measures how often we use our phone for productivity, health and fitness, creativity, reading and reference, and social media. It also counts how many times we pick up our phone in a day. I was shocked the other day when I analyzed this data and realized how much time I had been spending on things that were unproductive. When I looked at my total hours over the course of a week, I discovered where all of the time that I felt like I just didn’t have had gone. What is your biggest distraction and how might it be hindering your hearing?
Physical Environments – Proximity is power. The physical spaces that we occupy and the people that we are near have a huge impact on our ability to listen to our soul. Think about the physical environment in which you are most productive or inspired. For me, it’s in nature, solitude, or with people who feel like sunshine. How might your physical environments be affecting your ability to experience the best perspective?
This week I challenge you to create your money seat. Spend some intentional time in stillness, silence, and in physical environments that afford you the opportunity to connect with the source. Minimize distractions that threaten to disrupt this heightened state of awareness. In this perfectly positioned seat lies the crystal clarity that you’ve been seeking.
